Asking about care
Take clear questions to the visit.
Tick each question once you have an answer. Keep the rest for your next conversation.
To begin
Start with the treatment and the people
Ask the person treating you to use the full product name and explain why it is being considered.
A medicine made or changed for a patient is called compounded. Ask why that change is needed and which pharmacy would make it.
Keep unanswered questions in view as you work through the list.

Look a little closer
Listen for an answer you can repeat
If the answer uses an unfamiliar word, ask what it means. Try saying the answer back in plain words. Ask for written cost terms and a copy of the care plan.
National guidance for doctors, adopted in May 2026, calls for a way for patients to contact the person providing their care with questions afterward.
This advice does not itself make a California law. As of September 2026, California requires your health to be properly checked before a prescription. Ask the service how to reach the person treating you afterward.
Chapter recap
Keep this in mind.
Leave with the product name, the care plan, the fee terms, and a way to reach the person treating you. Keep the unanswered questions for a later conversation.
