Place and access
Finding care from Malibu.
Think about where the visit would happen, who would assess you, and how to reach them again. Those questions work for an office visit or a visit from home.
To begin
Start with California’s rules
The Census Bureau places Malibu in Los Angeles County.
Telehealth is care given from a distance, such as a visit by video.
As of September 2026, your doctor needs a current California licence to give you online treatment when you are located in California. An out-of-state doctor may advise a California-licensed doctor without that licence, but cannot take charge of your care or give treatment orders.
The doctor may live outside California; the state licence is what matters for this check as of September 2026.

Compare ways of getting care
For an office visit, ask who will examine you and whether later visits must happen there. For a visit from home, ask how your health is checked and how to reach the person treating you.
As of September 2026, California can allow an online questionnaire as the health examination before a prescription. It must meet the standard of care: the level of medical care your health needs require. The rule does not promise that a form is enough for every patient.
National advice for doctors says to arrange tests or an examination in person when needed to assess your health.
A form alone does not tell you how the service works. Ask who reviews it and what happens if they need more information.

Put access into your budget
Would a test or an office visit be needed elsewhere?
Would follow-up care have a separate charge?
Could I use a pharmacy I choose?
What would happen if online care did not fit my needs?
Chapter recap
Keep this in mind.
Write down where you would be during the visit. Before comparing options, get the treating person’s name and all the fee terms.
